G’day everyone, I was lucky enough to participate in the Printable workshop on Saturday that was run through the Queensland Writers Centre. Unfortunately I couldn’t attend in person but with the power of Zoom still met a number of people from across Australia. It was a full day on author branding and selling through social media and the 2 authors that presented were excellent. The morning session was run by Ally Blake who is a romance author and who also helps other authors with their author branding. The session was jammed packed with useful information and as a result I’ve got a couple of other ideas on how to improve my website.
The afternoon session was spent with Stacey McEwan who had a fascinating story on how she become a published author. She started to make TikTok videos and gathered a large following which then spread to Instagram (if you don’t follow her I highly recommend you do, her videos are hilarious). She announced that she was going to self publish her own book but with her significant following, she was offered (and accepted) a traditional publishing deal. She highlighted the need as an author to have a social media presence and when I thought about pursuing writing I had the same thought so signed myself up everywhere on social media. I can definitely see the benefits in growing your audience in that realm so one of my goals is to start posting more regularly on the social channels. I’m still undecided about whether I want to go down the self publishing or traditional publishing route for my work in progress but through this workshop I can see that as an author you can start to grow and engage in potential readership even before you complete your book. Here’s a link to my attempt at an Instagram video Author’ish’ writing tip number 478 with my very ‘helpful’ Author’ish’ writing tips. What I like about these posts is that they’re easy to make. What I don’t like though is my head on video but we’ll see what happens. Have a great day.
